Wildlife Control: Your Fall Guide

If you’ve suddenly begun to hear noises in your attic, it’s likely that you need to contact Apex Wildlife Control to schedule wildlife removal services. As the cold season approaches, animals such as squirrels, raccoons, mice, and rats will seek shelter in houses. It’s during this time that many people in the surrounding Greater Memphis Area will experience nuisance wildlife activity in high volume. Understanding a few principles could be key to saving, not only money, but also your property, too.

For starters, it’s important to understand that animals must have a way to gain entry into your property. This seems simple and rather obvious, but you would be surprised to find out how many people go unaware. As the year goes by, small rodents such as rats, squirrels, and raccoons can wreak havoc on your house. For example, rats and squirrels are notorious for chewing holes in ducts, soffits, and paneling. Raccoons are known to literally rip their way into your attic, lifting up boards and pulling. This activity may persist throughout the year, on and off, until an entry point has been established.

Apex Wildlife Control memphis tennessee, animal removal

After this occurs, it’s only a matter of time until any variety of nuisance wildlife may pay a visit. As they take up residence, your new tenants can cause a number of health concerns. Feces, urine, and dead animals will accumulate, thus providing breeding grounds for various diseases. Further, recent studies show that these critters cause 20% of household fires. Small rodents, prone to chewing entry points, will also chew your wiring, which presents fire hazards. This puts your family and property at risk. With an easy to schedule Apex Wildlife Control inspection, you could prevent all of this.

Our Process

Our specialists will identify all entry points that the animal has created.  Once they have determined the extent of the damage, including all health concerns, they will consult with you. During this consultation, you will be provided with a detailed summary of the findings. If there are damages, you’ll receive an estimate for repairs, which come guaranteed for 1 year. Further, we will trap in order to remove any remaining animals. See our previous articles here to find out why trapping is a superior method to poison.

Apex Wildlife Control: The Rat Control Experts of Memphis, TN

Rat control in the Greater Memphis Area becomes increasingly important as we enter the fall season. It’s during this time, which we call the “busy season”, that nuisance wildlife activity picks up. Rats, raccoons, squirrels, and mice will seek shelter in your home in order to escape the elements. These invaders, looking to take up residence & raise young, can cause a medley of issues for your family & property. Some of these issues are more commonly understood, such as health hazards. However, there are also the fire hazards to contend with, as 20% of all undetermined house fires are linked to small rodents. These animals, in attempt to nest, destroy ducts, insulation, and chew wires. All of which, especially the latter, can cause disastrous fires. Not to fear, however, as Apex Wildlife Control are your critter ridders of Memphis, TN. One simple inspection, and we will prevent any incidents with ease.

Rat Control Memphis: Where to Start

So you’ve been hearing scurrying, clawing, and running in your walls & attic. Don’t worry, it’s not a ghost, but likely a small rodent of some kind. Memphis, TN is known to have widespread rat problems, especially in the East Memphis to Midtown areas. Whatever the critter involved, whether it be rats, mice, squirrels, or raccoons, the professionals at Apex Wildlife Control harness the experience and training to solve the problem. It’s usually the case, in rat control or small rodent scenarios, that the animal entered through a hole in the roof or foundation.

This can be traced to the area from which the noises are coming. Most commonly a small rodent has chewed a hole in an attic and taken up residence. This provides the small animal with a place to sleep, from which it can then exit to look for food. This is why we include a full inspection with each new job we open. After we’ve determined the species and all entry points, we can then draft a plan an exclusive plan for your case. Rat control works best when executed in a timely fashion. Do not hesitate when you begin hearing noises in your attic. Be proactive, as infestation is likely to occur.

What’s That Smell?

Have you set poisonous bait around your attic, in hopes of solving your wildlife problem? If so, you should consider removing the bait, and instead hire a trapper to remove the animal. Why? Well, you’ll soon understand! You likely know it’s too late if you find yourself whiffing something horrendous from underneath your floor or inner walls. Chances are you succeeded in killing the nuisance animal. Now, however, your house smells like death, and you’re going to need to cut into the house to remove the dead animal. Well folks, Apex Wildlife Control is here to help with our dead animal removal service!

Dead Animal Removal & Deodorization (D&D)

With our Dead Animal Removal Services, we will locate the dead animal and remove it. This assures that we keep your property sanitized and germ free. The smell of carrion is perhaps one of the worst smells you’ll ever experience. Removing the deceased animal directly from the source is often the only relief you’ll find. Not easily bothered by decaying flesh? The health hazards and other pests that will soon come as result should bother you plenty!

You don’t want to attract other critters & pests into your house! It’s only a matter of time before a decaying animal attracts flies, roaches, beetles, & predatory animals to your property. What’s perhaps worse are the health concerns. Airborne pathogens such as Hantavirus are common from decaying animals. As the animal rots, these bacteria may spread through your air ducts, circulated by your air conditioning during the hot summer.

How Does Apex Wildlife Control Operate?

Apex Wildlife Control operates by sending out our D&D team. This crew of qualified, trained, & licensed professionals evaluate and inspect the source of the issue. Upon this inspection, they give consultation, after which they begin to remove the dead animal. This may involve cutting into walls if the animal has crawled deep into them. Once again, we highly suggest trapping as a superior removal method! It doesn’t have to come to these extremes.

Once the animal is removed, our technicians will perform the deodorization and sanitation. This will remedy the smell and health hazards, and return your living conditions back to normal. The pathogens will be eliminated, as will any fecal matter and contaminants.

In closing, Apex Wildlife Control wants to remind you just how superior trapping is to poisonous bait. Trapping prevents all of this. Further, an Apex Wildlife Control technician performs a full inspection & located all points of entry. Once this entry point is determined and closed off, the problem will cease to persist. We will solve your problem.

Prevent 20% of Fires With a Home Inspection

It’s time for a home inspection. Did you know that chewed wiring by small rodents accounts for 20% of undetermined house fires? If left unhampered, nuisance wildlife such as raccoons, rats, & mice will destroy ductwork, vents, and wiring. All of which can lead to disastrous fires that can be prevented with a quick home inspection. Apex Wildlife Control offers a very low cost, top-to-bottom inspection that covers everything so you can rest-assured.

Prevent fire hazards with a home inspection
Rodents account for 20% of all unaccounted fires.

What’s Included?

Apex Wildlife Control’s home inspection & consultation, covers a complete analysis of your home & property. Our wildlife experts check from foundation to rooftop for signs of chewed wiring, damaged foundation, ductwork, and animal activity. Unfortunately, many of these dangers go unnoticed or ignored, which leads to even greater problems. You may be unaware of present activity, and need decontamination, fecal removal, or trapping to prevent health hazards. Don’t put you & your family at risk if you don’t have to. Our experts will consult & advise upon inspection, putting you on the right track to solving your problem.

What If You Find Activity?

If Apex Wildlife Control finds signs of animal activity during our inspection, then upon consultation we will advice trapping. Trapping is always your best means to end a nuisance wildlife problem. Not only does it assure the animal is gone, and not dead in a floorboard or wall, but it also eliminates other pests and wildlife. Similarly, we will advice exclusion to seal up breaches in your roof, walls, or foundation.

Exclusion is the only guaranteed way to solve the problem. When you purchase exclusion services from Apex Wildlife Control, we guarantee the work for 1 year. As CEO Charles Harris says, “choosing not to purchase exclusion is the same as leaving the door open when you have a fly problem”. If you don’t seal the entry point, other animals will eventually find a way into your home.

Honey Bee Removal

Apex Wildlife Control recently made local Memphis headlines after it removed thousands of honey bees from one of Mississippi’s oldest homes. During the bee removal and relocation Apex Wildlife  Control paid close attention, as to not damage the cabin or the precious insects. It was a great honor for Apex Wildlife Control. Not only were we fortunate enough to save such a historic house, but we were able to promote bee preservation in a public forum. Due to poor pesticide regulation and pollution, the honey bee has suffered a tremendous decline. Apex Wildlife Control continues to pursue the preservation of natural habitats & wetlands, as well as animal species. Our two animal preservations contain a number of local plants, wildlife, and bee colonies.

Apex Wildlife Bee removal
CEO Charles Harris gives a speech to local news channels.

Apex Wildlife Control is much more than your average wildlife removal company. As trappers, we specialize in removal and relocation. This helps us sustain wildlife populations and ecosystems, without damaging beneficial species, thus promoting the natural balance of our beautiful forests. Understanding the importance of honey bees is yet another factor in this balancing act. Not only are honey bees misunderstood by the general population, but their vital role in our food production is underestimated.

Why Are Honey Bees Important?

Honey bees are essential to sustaining food output for our consumption. Since honey bees pollinate 1/3 of the food we eat, without them our grocery stores would be rather empty. Without the natural pollination of bees, you could say farewell to most of your favorite fruits and veggies. Sustain mentions that the reasons they are so important is because, “globally there are more honey bees than other types of bee and pollinating insects.”

What Can I Do About My Bee Problem?

If you’ve noticed a large cluster of bees in your house, mailbox, car, or backyard, odds are that it’s just swarming behavior. This is nothing to worry about, as it’s typical honey bee behavior. This swarming is result of a new queen searching for a home. When a new queen splits off the old hive, she takes a handful of worker bees to create a new home for herself. During this search, it is highly common to spot swarming around your property. Although it may seem scary and sudden, it’s nothing to fear. Odds are that the bees will move in a matter of hours to days.

The Bees Have Not Left

However, if the rare chance occurs that the bees do not move, it is recommended to keep a safe distance and call a bee professional. A bee keeper can remove the honey bees and queen, and relocate them to a new home. By doing this you are helping the promote bee survival and contributing back to the global environment. Apex Wildlife Control performs this service for a very low fee.

It is always advised to remove them without pesticides! As trappers, we have learned that poison often leads to worse problem. For example, the old honey in your house could attract new bees, or worse, rot and cause severe structural damage to your house. The pesticides also damage other beneficial species, and attract other nuisance wildlife control. Only an expert in bee removal can safely relocate the bees and solve your problem.

We are Trappers

Apex Wildlife Control are trappers. We use behavioral science, coupled with state-of-the-art technology to safely, humanely remove animals. We firmly believe that this is the most effective method for nuisance wildlife control. Apex Wildlife Control in our ongoing efforts to educate the community, has a lot to say about why trapping is better than any other means of control.

Why Should I Purchase Trapping?

Trapping is not as easy as it seems. Not every animal behaves the same way, and not every animal can be baited as easily! In fact some animals, such as raccoons and rats, may be what we call “trap shy”. That means they are a less prone to entering a trap. It takes a true wildlife expert, like all of our trappers at Apex Wildlife Control, to understand what it takes. That’s why all of our technicians and experts have wildlife degrees from accredited universities!

It’s the Best Method of Wildlife Control

Trapping is ultimately the best form of wildlife control for a few reasons. Only rarely will Apex Wildlife Control use alternative means. Trapping always remains our most favorable option because:

  • It’s humane: we trap so we don’t have to kill! That means all the animals we trap get relocated to wetlands, or our wildlife reserve so that they can give back. Many of these animal serve crucial environmental niches, so it’s important that they are removed and relocated.
  • It’s effective: Trapping as a form of control is simply the most effective. This is for a number of reasons, and usually other means such as poison create even bigger problems! For example, a poisoned animal may die in your wall or crawl space. If this occurs, then you have just opened a can of worms. You’ll likely need to gain access to the dead animal before other pests do. Further, you’ll need deodorization and decontamination to rid the smell!
  • Peace of mind: Poison and snap traps can incite nail biting and sleepless nights. You won’t really know if the animal problem has been solved until activity ceases for weeks! During this time you are sure to wonder if there’s an animal under your bed or in your closet. However, when you purchase trapping from Apex Wildlife Control, you’re getting a full inspection and consultation. This means that we check your wiring, ducts, and roof for damages! Apex Wildlife Control also checks for signs of activity and will no immediately whether or not your problem is solved.

What are You Waiting For?

Whether it’s rats in your attic, or a troublesome raccoon terrorizing the neighborhood, Apex Wildlife Control has a solution for you! Our professionals are educated, trained, and licensed to handle all animal species. With these practices, it’s no wonder why Apex Wildlife Control is the #1 wildlife removal company in the Greater Memphis Area. Call us now and we will fix your problem!
