Our Rat Inspection Process

Rat Inspection For Your Home - Let's Fix This

You’re here because you have either seen or heard rats in your home, or just “something” moving around in the attic or walls.  Regardless, its just enough to make you uneasy.  Those stealthy, squeaking, running sounds in the middle of the night are the stuff horror movies are made from.  It probably seems like you haven’t had a good night’s sleep in forever.

At Apex Wildlife Control, our only goal is to help you regain control of your home.  Rats and their droppings will not only make you and your family incredibly sick , but they can do a tremendous amount of damage to your home as well.  You need those animals out of your house, and we are just the wildlife company to help you with that.

Rat Inspection For Your Home - Inspecting Your Attic

Our technician will arrive at your home armed with ladders, a flashlight and only one thing on his mind… to find out how these rodents are accessing your home and put a stop to it.

First, he will ask you questions about signs of wildlife you have seen or heard, the time of day or night you have heard them, and even any recent remodeling or construction done on your home.  He will then inspect your attic.  If you do have rats or mice, there are almost always telltale droppings.  He can also tell if these droppings were left by raccoons or squirrels as well.  He will then look for wildlife damage which can include chewed wiring, a leading cause of house fires in the United States.  After checking your wiring, he will look for soiled insulation, nesting material, gnaw marks, and even torn HVAC duct work.  The technician will document everything with photos which he will provide to you as part of your inspection.

Rat Inspection For Your Home - Looking For Entry Points

The technician will then inspect the outside of your home for entry points that are accessible by rodents.  Rats only need a hole the size of a quarter to squeeze their way into your home.  Mice only need a hole the size of a nickel!

We don’t just walk around your home for five minutes and give you a quick estimate asking for thousands of dollars.  This is your home and your safety that we’re here for, and  we take that very seriously.  Our technicians take their time and thoroughly inspect your entire home from foundation to roof line for entry points such as holes in your soffits, torn screening, rotted wood, unsealed ground vents, chewed gable vents, and especially your home’s construction gap.  What exactly is a construction gap, you ask?

Rat Inspection For Your Home - The Construction Gap

The construction gap, or builders gap, is the space where your roof meets the side of your home, just above your gutters.  Many builders seal this area with thin metal flashing called drip edge which rats can easily chew through.  Or sometimes this space is simply left unsealed.  If you are able to reach them, lift up your shingles and take a peek.  Hopefully you don’t have a huge construction gap like this one!

Ever wonder why these rodents are called roof rats?  It’s because rats can smell the hot air escaping from your attic through your construction gap, and so they make a beeline for it.  Rats will leap from overhanging tree limbs onto your roof, and if your construction gap is vulnerable, they will chew their way into your home in minutes.

Rat Inspection For Your Home - The Solution To Your Rat Problem

After taking photos of the entry points on the outside of your home, the technician will provide you with a comprehensive inspection report along with all the photos he took during the inspection.  This inspection report will list damaged areas of your home such as soiled insulation or chewed wiring.  The report will also list areas where the rats are entering your home, and recommendations for sealing these entry points.  He will take time to answer all your questions so that before he leaves, you will know exactly what needs to be done to solve your rat problem.

The technician will also provide a trapping estimate on the spot, and he is prepared to begin trapping rats that very day.  Our technicians arrive with everything necessary to begin ridding your home of these rodents IMMEDIATELY.
